Cyworld.

For me, the most inflectional invention is cyworld. When I turn on the computer, the first thing I do is logging on cyworld. On top of my cyworld home page, I could see how many people visited that day and what they wrote on me. I could make a few menus such as photo album, diary, profile and so on. With these, I consistently communicate with people. I do not only updating photos and diary regularly but also writing a message for my friends. Just as I do, almost every teenager and people in twenties is now becoming hugely engaged in it. But sometimes, I felt something suspicious: Is myself and relation in cyworld real?

Of course I enjoy communicating with my friends on cyworld and think that cyworld shows me quiet well. However, some intentions are attached in cyworld and that makes the difference of me in cyworld and real life. When I post my picture, I do my best to make it look as much as good. I try to choose a picture that makes me seem better than I am. It's like disguising or feigning. And the diary, I sometimes wrote even some words which are not my real sincere. Because cyworld is space for representing oneself publicly, everybody tends to fake themselves unconsciously. Besides, the relation in cyworld is not that believable. I have almost 200 friends on line but I don't think all of them are my friend. However, cyworld relationship is not a direct thing so I could pretend that I don't feel any discomfort with them.

However, I realized that cyworld can't show all of myself. No one wants to show their weak points on cyworld. Everybody pretends that they're ok. They're living good lives.

I know its convenience and benefit. It allows people to get in touch regardless of distance and short of time. However, if people are going to engage in it too much, they'll probably feel embrassement or could suffer much more serious symptoms. We should use this double edged sword wisely.

My inner discovery-Computer

Jitendra Kumar Gupta (#201081613)     Page -93 (Wed 7-8)

Hey, do you know computer? If not, let me explain you briefly. Computer is an electronic device which works very systematically and performs your works in a short span of time. Do you know how I get used to this machine? In the beginning, I was very nervous to use this electronic device but as if now, I can not think of single day without computer.

During my primary education, I learnt computer in my school with lot of "do and don't". However, I used to perform well in the exam but I was not confident enough. So, my use of this scientific machine was limited and gradually, I lost even my interest. This is because I was always in the state that it may go wrong. Furthermore, it was expensive at that time, too. So, my heart does not allow me to use this machine and finally, I quit it. But with passage of time, I felt that I am nowhere if I don't know how to use this electronic machine. After that I told my father that I am in dire need of computer, without knowing it I can't think of a bright future. Because everywhere computer is being used extensively and each and every MNC is demanding computer's basic skills from their perspective employee. And I am not going to meet their requirement at large. So, it will be a bit difficult to get job either in MNC or in govt. job. My father came to know the very fact and gave money to buy a laptop. I bought a laptop and started using myself while reading computer books. Whenever I do not understand any stuff related with computer, I used to ask either my senior or my school days friends who are pursuing Engineering in Computer science. In fact, I started doing research on my own psychology and finally, I came to know the very fact and started using computer frequently. Do you know why I used to hesitate while using computer? It was my fear which hinders me to not even touch an electronic machine. As if now, I know how to compose and send a mail, how to use Ms- Office, and also how to use internet. This happened due to the confidence which developed with the arising needs.

In today's world, if you do not know English and Computer then you are not a literate person. That means you are illiterate. It does not matter how diverse and deep knowledge you have in other fields. So, what I think as if now is that keep pace with today's world requirement, find your own weakness, discover yourself and then try to fix it with your own abilities.

                                                        Man's best friend, Mp3

Barry Schwartz says that we live in a world of paradox of choice. There are a variety of options that people can choose conveniently and easily. However, since we are so caught up thinking about our needs and satisfaction, this intensifies the urge to keep pursuing after the bettered options and choices. One major development that we can easily say is technology development. However, among all types of different technologies, I personally think MP3 is the most brilliant invention in my lifetime.

The simple definition of MP3 can be a music player that lets people download favorable music from the internet to listen to it. Nowadays, there are additional options installed on the MP3 which seduces many musical lovers to purchase new editions of MP3. I believe that Mp3 allows people not only to listen to music but also enable us to get away from the reality world mounted with stress. Music helps us to live life with enjoy, and since mp3 allows us to listen to music wherever we are at, this adds more color in to our lives. A lot of songs in different genres conveys different meanings through music and listening to Mp3 often makes us think constantly about different issues and thoughts. For example, whenever I get on the bus and subway to go to school, I would always take my mp3 with me. It helps me relieve from the stress, makes me think about the lyrics of different songs, and enjoy the road toward school. Without Mp3, my life would be dull and uninteresting and I would have to carry a CD player or laptop with me to listen to music. This surely would be uncomfortable to carry around with me all the time.

It is important to appreciate the inventions that we can use in daily life. Therefore, I believe Mp3 is a great invention that has played as a major part as a linkage between the music and the real world. It is obvious that this kind of invention will develop in to a more useful and sophisticated version in the near future. Thus, mp3 has had imfluences in society as a digitial technology and I am excited hoping for a new genius invention that would become one of the attributes for sophisticated society.

A new outcome of the technology, Smart Phone

These days most of people in the subway seems to be occupied with something, constantly looking at it, watching videos from it or sending text messages. What they are holding in their hands is 3G or 4G cell phone, so called 'smart phone', which opened a new era in people's lives. With this new mechanic people became able to do things with just a tip of a finger and enjoy a new life style.

The smart phone provided a great access of entertainment and utility to people. People began to enjoy a new and fun entertainment through so called 'Apps', a short term of 'Application'. For instance with apps called 'Kakao talk', 'Who are you' and etc, people with smart phones are able to make contacts with each other very conveniently. With only these apps and free internet which, with smart phone people can catch it and use it very easily, making contact with friends and even strangers who use smart phones became an natural phenomenon. Moreover, with apps that provide convenient life style, for instance, apps that allows people to buy movie tickets or make it easy to access to the banks, have made people use their time more effectively. Without making trips to the banks or to the theaters with only a tip of a finger, people can do whatever they have to do. Some people worry that smart phones will invade people's privacy and make people more isolated in the cyber world. This worry has its point; most of the smart phone applications want people's private information if one tries to use it, and it can lead to an phenomenon of people neglecting their real lives and living in the cyber world. However, in my opinion these are minor bad side of using the smart phones. The smart phones are leading people's lives in more rich and convenient way of living which was impossible before the invention of smart phone occurred.

Smart phone users are now benefiting a new way of life style that one couldn't think of before it was invented. With this new mechanism all of us who are living in this time are able to hold the access to the new life style. If it is wisely used, it can be a key to the new entertaining and conventional life.

Road view of Daum

I have no sense of direction. For example, I usually turn left unconsciously when I meet a forked road, so I often get lost. Also, I don't walk street looking surroundings carefully when I walk unfamiliar road. So, I have concern about going to a strange place.

However, one day I heard a notice very wonderful to me that Daum (a portal site) made a road view. It shows figures of all parts of the country. When I search a some place (ex. Jongno, Kyeongbokgung etc.), I can see all scenes around that place. It is very useful especially for me. When I have to go some place, I can go there in a roundabout way by showing photos of this site. Actually, I never got lost after I using it. Also, when I forgot to visit some store and to check something of that store, I look up that store by road view, and I see the number of that store which is written at figurehead. Thanks to road view, I also can save time. In addition, it is funny to look around various streets by this smart program when I am bored.

Road view is very amazing. It makes my lifestyle differently. Now I don't worry about going other place, it became interest to me. So when I have to choose the best invention that happened in my life, I choose Road view without thinking other things.

New Development in This Era, Smartphone

200903875 Seonyoung Blair Hwang

Have you ever made a reservation of restaurants or movie tickets while you were walking on the street? Thanks to the development of smartphone, people can easily access on the internet and do whatever they want. It is deniable that smartphone has wielded a great impact on people's life.

To start with, thanks to the smartphone, people could enhance their time effectiveness. From checking their e-mails in the subway to making a reservation of a restaurant when they drink a cup of coffee in a cafe, people use the internet through their smartphone whenever they want. It makes it possible for people spend their precious time at their convenience. Some functions in smartphone so called 'Apps' which an abbreviation of 'Applications' encourages people to use their time more efficiently. Some apps such as banking apps or stock and share apps allow people to shorten their valuable time by not dropping by banks. Hence, these days, numerous people are developing various kinds of apps not only for their time-efficiency but also for fun. For instance, there is apps named 'How much do I look like with celebrities' which provides people the percentage of how they resemble them. Some people argue that smartphone leads people indulge in using their phones and cause people feel isolated. However, I believe that using equipments should be controlled by themselves not to be engrossed with and people should be responsible for using it.

Technology, especially smartphone is often called a boon of technology because it supports people's life in various ways. When we make use of it wisely, we can be blessed with its benefits.

p93. Implant dental - 200902732 LEE JI SUK

200902732 LEE JI SUK / WED78 / p.93

There is a korean saying 'Teeth is better than son and daughters', it means people can eat delicious food only when they have teeth. It stresses the importance of teeth. Healthy teeth are very important in one's life. It's true that we can keep them healthy by brushing our teeth, but as people get older, their teeth weaken and some of them even fall out. Because teeth are quiet weak, they also can be easily damaged by accident. As people realize the importance of teeth, dentures(틀니) have been invented.

Several years ago, when my dad helped my grandfather to do farm work, he was hit by the cultivator by accident. By this accident, his lips were torn and some of his teeth fell out. After the operation that sew up his lips, he came back to home and went to dental clinic to fill his empty gums. Until that time, I just thought that the dentures are the only thing we can do to replace missing teeth. The dentist said "As just two of your teeth fell out, you'd better do implant dental". And he also said implant is as comfortable as real teeth. Hearing this, I was very surprised. All of the elderly I had seen wore dentures, and it seemed very uncomfortable because they have to take out their dentures to brush them. My dad decided to do impant dental, and he came to chew his food well again. Implant was invented in 1980s, but because of its high cost, dentures can cause remainng teeth decay and fall out, implant dental don't. Also, implant dental is very similar to one's real teeth in shape and function.

I really agree that teeth is very important in our lives. Of course, real teeth are better than artificial teeth, but if the case that my teeth happens, I will choose to do implant dental. Now I can speak with assurance that implant dental is one of the best inventions in this world.

                           3-D Movies

Have you ever watched 3D movies recently? The advent of the 3D technology has been hailed as a breakthrough in the movie industry around the world. Millions of people the world over poured into the movie theaters to witness this recent technological development that took a movie in terms of story-telling to a whole new plateau. The history of cinematography dates back hundreds of years. The Lumiere brothers sent shock waves around the world with their first -ever short film of a train pulling into the station in the late 19th century. At that time, the audience never saw the sequence of images and got scared, because they thought the train was coming right towards them. Since then, cinematography has gone a long way and this recent technological development is taking the world by storm nowadays. 3D movies are indeed a much more convincing and powerful way for movie directors to get their message across to the audience, and it certainly makes movies much more interesting.

Thanks to the 3D technology, movies have become much more engaging. The audience feels as if they were actually involved in the action instead of being detached observers. The images projected seem so real to the point where they sometimes make the audience fringes. Thus, people can become easily invested and engrossed in the films. Some people dismiss 3D films as a ploy on the part of the movie industry to bring people to the theaters, so that they can rake in huge revenues. Others think it will not have a lasting effect, since by nature, people soon become accustomed to new technologies that will be eventually viewed as nothing new and mundane. They believe that people will soon get grossed out by a flood of 3D movies in a matter of time and will not find it interesting anymore. Even though people's interest will gradually decline, I think it will be here to stay for a long time, if not forever, due to its said special effects.

This technological innovation has definitely added another facet to the conventional 2D movies. It is certainly a powerful tool to make images seem so much real, which gives the audience the impression that they are part of the action of the films. Hopefully, this technology will not be confined to a few hollywood blockbusters and we will see all sorts of films in 3D.

New addiction, cell phone

200903084

CHUNG Kyung Seo

When I take subway, bus or walking down the street, I could see many people holding a cell phone. Cell phone industry is the most fast growing. Every year, it produces new one. New one is cooler, better and has various functions as well. Recently, this smart phone emerged in the world. However I think this cell phone is too addictive to people.

Cell phone is becoming new addiction to human lives. Without cell phone, people could not answer the phone call, text message, take a picture, listen to music, and watch a TV show and even wake up in the morning. As smart phone becomes new tool, this gadget manipulates people to consume. In Korea, Cell phone industry is the most competitive one. Every year, cell phone companies release a new item. It adds many functions and design. Especially students and younger generation, they are sensible on trend and desire to possess something fascinating. Companies usually focus on these people and stimulate them to buy. Cell phone encourages excessive spending.  Many people have argued that cell phone is for a multi-tasking. A cell makes possible to send email, arrange meeting and do other things anywhere and anyplace. But this multi tasking disturbs people. People cannot patient enough when cell phone is missing. It has to be somewhere around. If not, people feel more anxious and worried. It causes them to obsess. People should know that convenience would make you addiction.

We could not imagine how to live without cell phone. Cell phone helps us to communicate, entertain, and the other. As IT industry develops new cell phone, many people would change their cell phone. It causes them to overspend money. Also people would not be separated from cell phone. Checking a cell phone has turned into new habit of the modern. Of course, we cannot disagree with the advantages of cell phone. However we should alarm others not to addict to cell phone.

Taking entrance examination twice

Taking entrance examination twice

p67  second draft

'Failure is a stepping stone to success' . I realized this saying through taking Korean entrance examination twice. I'm not telling some obvious and boring story like I failed my first test but studying harder, I got a great grade in my second test. I failed my exam than before. Then how could I choose this failure for stepping stone for my life?

I learned that failure is not only limited to result. At first time, after taking second entrance examination, I resented my test score. I did my best and I believe this time is last chance of my life. But how could I get this result I had never taken before? So in my first year at university, I didn't believe any word related to efforts and didn't want to try harder to do anything. But time after time. taking a course named 'establishing with a little business', I thought again about examination. In that class. professor told us to follow what you want not to follow what other think it is better. After hearing that word, I looked back upon what I want, Taking good grade in exam and going to so called SKY university was what other think is best. I didn't know what was good for my life. Not only that class, meeting with various people in HUFS also changed my thought. I joined club activity called Sife, which helps people who need our helps. Through that club, I learned that I could help other people with what I had even I had really small things. I learned that taking entrance examination was not the end of my life and I have to ready for my real life. Also trying to read all kinds of books also made me mature. Especially Jang Young Hee's essay told me one failure doesn't mean whole failure in our life. In world, everything couldn't works as I expected. It was not based on skepticism. By changing my view, I accepted my ability and knew which part I could do better.

To make failure become my stepping stone, I had to accepted it. First time I avoided it and I am busy in hiding it. But it didn't solve my problem. Right now I try to face the failure squarely. Taking exam was the best chance in my life because it was the biggest failure I got. But nothing could give me such a big lesson. These days When I get a chance to try to take other exam or do other thing, I apply my lesson that was finding which part I could do and being good at. These day I felt failure truly become my stepping stone.

Internet newspaper

Every morning, I felt fresh feeling whenever I watched well folded news. I had no idea when it was delivered, but maybe my dad would take it for every morning. I couldn't understand all of the story but I tried to read all of things. After entering the middle school, even though I didn't have enough time to read it, but in order to feel fresh, i usually started my morning with newspaper. when I was in high school, using internet became parts of our life. As technology had changed fast, the news also had changed its form by using internet. And right now, internet newspaper has became new parts of my life.

I think Internet news paper are one of the greatest inventions for several resaons. As a result of internet newspaper, people can receive news as it happen. We don't have to wait for its publishment anymore. Whenever and wherever with internet, we can read newspaper. And moreover internet newspaper help to form public opinions easily. We can't quickly respond to article in traditional newspaper. If we had wanted it, we would have had to write letters for reader's column, But we don't need to do that right now. We can only write comments right below the articles. By commenting, we could share our thinking and see what others think about it and also make issue. As a result, one article could be more rich in contents by mixing with lots of people's thinking. We could see various type of newspaper from progressive newspaper to conservative newspaper at once and for free. By accessing each newspaper's brand, we could compare each newspaper's different tone.

Of course ,internet newspaper also has weak points . We can't see it where internet doesn't get on access. And some comments written by readers have possibility to distribute false informations or wirte malicious comments. In spite of those things, including me, lots of people enjoy reading internet newspaper and commenting I think if reader more focus on weak points and try to improve it, nothing can replace newspaper.

Do you have a teacher who pray for you? I have a teacher who try to help me truly and I could feel it. She was my middle school teacher. She has been my homeroom teacher for two years. Her name was Yeo Jin. When I first entered the middle school, she also came our school first time, and we became her first student. At that time she had just graduated her school, so she was 25 and we felt her like our friends. I still remembered when she first came our class. She had really big eyes that could see our whole class at once and stared at us and said "Right now, we star our life together, I' m also first in here and I also felt strange to all of things. So let's work and talk together. I am always open to you" After listening her world, I felt she could be our real supporter. And I have a story how I have convinced that feeling.

In our class, including me, I hang out with eight friends. But the fight between us began with a trivial misunderstanding. At that time, we enjoyed our Physical Education time because of volleyball. Ironically, eight members of our group are split into two teams. First time we enjoy our competitions. But gradually our competition changed into anger to each other. We always joined together for lunch and enjoyed chattering and having ice creams. All the thing is gone. Not a little word did we talk. I felt really sorry about that situation, and then suddenly I realized the teacher's word. It is hard to go to teacher's room. My friends and I bravely knocked the door. First time, She was surprised at our visit but took us to her heart. When looking back upon that happening. I felt shy. Our fighting was just like kids stuff even though at that time, it was very big for me. After listening our words, she seriously advised us how to solve this problem. She talked to us on next day in morning assembly, "we have to gather for new volleyball game. I made new team for after class. I hope everyone come for the game." Most of us felt uncomfortable for our new team. Because teacher built team in different group on purpose. Surprisingly the more enjoying our game, the better comfortable to each other. Teacher bought an ice cream for us. I felt that ice cream was the most sweetest ever I had.

She and I had lots of stories I can not forget her after passing seven years. After graduation, I try to come and see her but I did not. I am sorry about that. I did not realized how caring she was. Now I am really thankful about meeting her and being taught by her. In this week I should call and go to see her and want to say "I'm really thank you, and I still miss you!"

My First Invention: Milk Bottle With a Thermometer

I think that most among us read the biography of some famous people of which one representative is for sure Thomas Alba Edison; He encouraged us, children to observe things around us in different ways and to dream of making new things with these new attitudes to things, that is, creativity. Probably for the same reason, there was every year Invention Contest when I was in elementary school and some fresh inventions were awarded.

I had never by the time thought  that I was a creative person. And, that is why I did not like this contest and would be at least once a year in trouble in finding a good idea. Moreover, since we students were obligated to represent at least one invention, I was 'scared' of the contest. One day, when I was on fifth grade-supposedly, I do not remember exactly when it was- one thought suddenly came to me: 'why not me' and I decided to be serious of inventing a great, new thing out of spite. Since my mother had a small store where were sold clothes, toys and small objects necessary for babies and little children. And also, each vacations I would visit my aunts who had little babies aging from only some months to three years and see them preparing milk with a feeding bottle for their children. I often saw them having difficulty to guess a proper temperature. Sometimes, they would drop some milk drops on a hand or sometimes tasted it. I found it unconvenient. It inspired me to make my first invention: milk bottle with thermometer. I tried first of all to put a thermometer outside of the bottle. It was easy to put it on but there was a problem: since the thermometer was not directly in the milk, the indicated temperature was not exact. So, my second trial was to put it inside the bottle, on the wall of it. It was much more difficult to install it inside. With my father's help, I had even to cut the bottle into two to set the thermometer on it. This time seemed that all was perfect. But, when I showed my milk bottle to my mother, she praised me, and at the same time point out a problem: hygiene which is most important for babies. To solve the problem, we needed a special material to cover the thermometer in order to keep babies away some hygiene-related potential dangers. It should not be made of traditional plastic exposing endoctrine-discupting chemicals in hot temperature, but should have a high heat conductivity. Finally, I did not find a good material and I didn't win the award neither.

It was however a good experience to adventure a new field that I thought would never suit me. It is said that invention is not far from us but just close to our life. Though this experience, I got to agree with the phrase considered by now as a difficult one, done by special people.

 The English Presentation Contest

Most people would have an experience of mouth becoming dry and head turning blank. It's one of those moments that anyone want to avoid or erase it inside our head. I also had this moment when I was in middle school which now I think of it, became a stepping stone at being a brave and confident woman.

In middle school, during the english time, I was dozing off in the front row. The english time in my middle school was very boring because our teacher kept saying the same thing over and over again. After saying the same thing quiet a few time he made an announcement that there would be an English presentation contest among all our middle school students and he will accept volunteers for it. No one raised their hands and he randomly picked two person in our class, me and my friend. I was so surprised that I practically jumped out of my chair and told the teacher that I can't possible do that, it would be such a hard challenge for me to speak in front of the whole students. The English teacher who gave me a corky smile left the class saying that he believes that it would be such a wonderful experience for me, which would last a lifetime. After being chosen for that English presentation contest me and my friend spent almost hours and hours after class preparing for it. We had to choose the topic, write at least 5 minute long essay about it, and the most hard part, memorize all of it. Moreover, we had to overcome the feeling of fainting in front of the whole school which was not easy at all. We constantly went over to the gym on top of our school where the contest would be held, took a deep breath and had pre-presentation practice. Finally, after over a week of preparing and practicing the day for the presentation had came. The whole contestants were ten including us, and two students were paired up for the presentation. Each pair had to pick papers inside the black bag which numbers were written, to choose who would go first, second, third and etc. With my trembling hand I picked up a paper and prayed that we would be the last one, which as me and my friend unfold the paper, number "1" sprang upon our eyes. We were bewildered but there was no time, we were first to go. We heard a loud round of applause and the red curtains went up, revealing two students whose faces were white and smiling very awkwardly. We did our presentation, about the pop culture of Korea almost for 8 minutes. We kept forgetting our lines and messing up which part to say and not which made our presentation long and dull. Even though, at that time, I tried to not make any eye contacts with people below us, I could sense that they were whispering and making dull faces saying silently toward us, 'When are you guys going to wrap it up?'. My mouth became very dry that I had to smack my lips quiet often and my head became blank just like a white sheet of paper. When our presentation finally ended, my friend and I almost flew downstairs from the stage and went straight toward the bathroom, so embarrassed by ourselves.

At that time when I was a middle school student that experience was the most horrible thing I want to forget about it completely. However, as times passes by, I found out due to that experience I gained more confident and courage at making presentation in front of people. Even though I am not really a type of person who has talent at giving a presentation, that experience really toughened me up. These day I regard myself as lucky to be chosen randomly for that contest, and believe that the experience of giving a presentation in front of the whole school really became a stepping stone for me to become a braver and confidential person.

Mijin Yi, rewriting for Good Teacher

Since there are too many words to upload my rewritten writing on the comment below the original one, I post it here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wonderful Teacher

Before I start my writing, I would like to ask you a question: what did you want to become when your childhood? If you are a girl, I am sure that most of you once dreamt of being a teacher at least for some period. I was also one of you. As I was the person who kept this dream for much long time compared to any of you-until my high school, more exactly just before getting my SAT result which discouraged me to come true such my long-lasting dream-, the word 'teacher' seems to mean more special to me than others. I met, as did others, many teachers from kindergarten to university by now, and I had different images from each of them. Since I had been dreaming of being teacher, I very often tried to observe them very carefully and 'analyze' their attitudes for myself who fully believed in being in the future a good teacher. So, now, let me talk about how a wonderful teacher is according to myself.

First of all, I think that a wonderful teacher has to be an utterly double-faced person. One face is the one as a good friend for his or her students and the other as a strict teacher. It could be slightly changed depending on students' grade, but a teacher usually faces various situations and students with different personality. They therefore need to manage these things differently. For example, one of my teachers in my high school was completely double-faced; he would pin the student's ears back for students' misdeed while he was usually very kind and considerate to us. One day, there was a quite serious argument between two students in my class of high school. The teacher punished them pretty ruthlessly by making them hold their hands up for several hours. After their punishment, he called them to explain them very kindly what had been wrong. After this event, there was no problem any more in my class, and those students never hated him, but on the contrary, they admired him more than before as a good teacher. It was always same to others. Secondly, it is necessary to keep young so that teachers come to understand students who are in a different generation from them. It is said that big consideration of students and effort to listen to students, both of them are required most to be a good teacher. These are based on understanding about their different attitudes and ways of thinking. Teachers, therefore, have to try find reasons which get their students in trouble with their disciplines and solve those problems to the students' level of thinking. This fact is proven by a research about best teachers in which some Korean students had participated and which was released out a couple of years ago; most of them confirmed that a teacher who tried to listen carefully to them and seemed younger than their real age was their best teacher. And, here is another example: several years ago, I came upon a TV program which was saying about the most popular teacher of a middle school; according to his school students, we would watch popular TV soap drama series, listen to Korean pop music, both which were now very popular among adolescents. And, in the video, the teacher, who was in the mid forties like some parents of his students, was even wearing the school uniform as all students were. For his uniform wearing, students felt closer with him than other teachers, and got to become open to him. In class, he did his lessons having been prepared to his students' level, for example, using names of actual popular young stars in order to explain things more easily to them. In a result, there were some students who got improved exam grade compared to their previous one.

There is a saying in Korea: education is our future. That means that to give our children good education is to have brighter society in the future for they would do their best to get better their country. This good education is in a part from school, that is, from teachers. They therefore do very important roles in society both in the present and in the future. For this reason, teachers need to be conscious of such importance of their career and do their best to teach their students. And, others including students have to have more respect on them. If these two things work well simultaneously, each individual and the society will be happy.

Taking entrance examination twice/ 200900547 Kim Si Eun

Taking entrance examination twice

I learned that taking entrance examination was not the end of my life and I have to ready for my real life. Also trying to read all kinds of books also made me mature.

Before trying to take other exam or do other thing, I apply my lesson that was finding which part I could do and being good at. These day I felt failure truly become my stepping stone.

Science Exposition on Water Hyacinth

Have you heard of a plant called 'water hyacinth' seen a green plant flowing on the water which is often seen at flower stores- if you are lucky, you can see the one with its violet flower-? Each time I see it anywhere I am such as on the street, in the nature or at someone's home, especially with its beautiful flower, it reminds me when I was on the third grade of elementary school, ten-year-old which could be one of the best moments in my school life.

It is about an exposition in various scientistic themes varying from astonomy to biology in which I participated in at that time. Since I met a teacher who was already quite old, seemingly around at the age of my grand-parents for my one-year school life on the third grade and who was my first male teacher in my life, I would feel very familiar with him and he was already very warm-hearted, friendly with us despite a big generation gap between him and his students including me. One day, he asked me, who was at that time a class monitor('banjang' in Korean) talk for a while after the school even to another friend, second vice monitor('bu banjang') as well. And then, he proposed us to participate in a rechearch about the growth of water hyacinth followed by an exposition in theme of science, which only a couple of representatives of each school in Korea would be supposed to participate in. Until Such time as I was proposed this opportunity from him, I had never thought of such a thing and I had not been pond of science but just a little interested in it. As soon as I heard him, I slightly hesitated because alike my external appearance, I was rather shy than brave and not a very active child to do such a 'big' event. On the other hand, I requestioned to myself why not me. I decided therefore to agree with his proposal. A few days later, we started to prepare the exposition from looking for some water hyacinth necessary  for our new research and continued it by observing and taking notes even several times a day on the plants' growth. I was really excited to observe its growth and its caracteristics like how it could flow on the water, what roles its roots had, etc. Furthermore, since this plant was very sensible in sunlight, every day, there were some remarkable changes in terms of growth. However, what we needed more was its flower but I had not had any by now, even if the day of our presentation was coming up. We were getting more and more nervous not to have it. Each break time between classes, as soon as I arrived at school, and even after my school, I would go to the labotatory see if a new flower had appeared with flattering feeling. Finally, 2 weeks before D-day, we decided to prepare our presentation except about its flower despite our big lack feeling of the fact. My friend, charged teacher and myself would make a presentation and repeat over and over again whenever we had a free time. Even at home, I would continuously read the script for the presentation and some exercises before my family. Finally, It was on the exhibition' day. I became very tense and I was not sure if I would do it well at the real time that I even could neither eat anything nor swallow my saliva. My mouth had got dry up like a desert sand and my heart was beating up very rapidly that It seemed to burst out. I do not remember anymore how the presentation went out. I can not recall what I said. All the thing was blank out before my eyes and I seemed to be completely alone at the place without any one letter. The only thing I have in my mind was that it was my most nervous moment by now and I thought for a second that my heart had been broken down.

Throughout this only experience, I became much braver and got proud of myself who had done the presentation seemed to me impossible in the beginning. After that, if I had a good opportunity like the presentation to improve my ability, I did not anymore hesitate to try it and was not afraid of doing a new thing I had never done before. Furthermore, I got sure that if there was something really interesting to me, I would be able to know by myself about it just with my passion to it and even to be an expert on it.

  Dreadful Piano Lessons

Learning new things can be daunting and stressful for all of us, especially when we try to learn things that are way out of our comfort zone.  I took piano lessons from my grand mother. In general, people tend to avoid doing things that they are not unfamiliar with. There are a handful of adventure seekers who are willing to try new things, but most of us are prone to become conformists who are  afraid of change or new ideas. However, stepping out of our own comfort zone and trying different things can enrich our lives and souls, even though it could be painstaking and hard in the beginning. The learned this lesson the hard way through the piano lessons that I took from my grandmother when I was little.

When I was a second grade in elementary school, my dad made me take piano lessons from my grandmother so that I could spend more quality time with her. My grandparents used to live just a stone's throw away from where I and my family lived, so I went there twice a week after school to learn the piano and have dinner with them afterwards. Truth be told I just wanted to go sideways and play in the playground, since it was totally against my will. My grandmother was not exactly the nicest and funniest teacher in the planet. She was old school when it comes to teaching kids. Whenever she put on glasses to teach me, she would turn into this stone faced old lady who neat- picked every mistake that I made. The books that we used were Bach, Chereney and Sonatine which were so boring that could put you instantly to sleep. Learning to read music was just dead difficult. My grandmother scolded me a lot since I was rather slow in reading the notes. She used to correct the positions of the fingertips on the scale and told me a million times that my hands did not make a shape of an arch when playing the piano. She did not let one mistake slide. Whenever I hit the wrong keys, She would made me play that part over and over again until I get that part right. It was a real torture.   Years later, I called it quits and my mother started giving me lessons instead but it fizzled out  after a certain period of time.

Even though I dreaded every minute of the piano lessons, now I feel that it was worth the pain. Not only do I have an ear for classical music, but also I can play the pieces on my own. The thrill that you get on your fingertips when they touch the scales of the piano when playing your favorite songs is something that people who do not play the musical instrument could never ever experience. Those hours of utter nightmare were indeed worth the pain.

pg76. A formative experience 200903084 CHUNG Kyung Seo

Being in American school

Moving to new place is always hard for me. My family lived a long time in one place until I was twelve. It was difficult for me to leave my old school to new one. I couldn't fit myself well in new school. I just wanted to go back to old school and old home. Instead of going back, my parents decided to go the United States. I was shocked. I couldn't believe it. Since it was for my father's work, I accepted their offer and glad that I can get out of this place. However I was afraid of new environment. Language is different, life-style is different and I was used to Korean people. After I stepped into airport, I felt scary.

As I experienced the transfer student in Korea, the first day of school is not great moment. I have to introduce myself to new faces, and try to be friends with them. They hardly know me and to them, I am new student. The memory of past gave me hard time. So it was difficult to face those students other than Koreans. There were sixteen students in my class. I was only Asian kid in my class. Since English is not my mother tongue, I was in hurry to listen to others and translate in my head. I think almost three months; I couldn't exactly understand what they are saying and how to say in English. Teachers helped me a lot and I assigned to have an ESL class, for students English as Second Language. This ESL teacher usually helped me to read. What we did was usually reading out loud a news article. He corrected my pronunciation. And find vocabularies that I don't know. He even repeated several times when he says something to me. He just wants to make sure I understand it clear. When my other teacher gave us to read book, it usually took a week to finish whole chapters. But with his help, it took three days to read. By the time goes, I improved a lot and can communicate others. I made some friends and didn't get scary when someone tries to speak with me.

It is unforgettable experience that I went to American school. It was not easy to get used to in English at first time. But with my teachers and friends, I started to understand it better. With this experience, I have confidence to speaking in English and get accustomed to other culture. It is my formative experience that I had.

pg.67 Wonderful teacher - 200902732 LEE JI SUK

200902732 LEE JI SUK / WED78 / P.49 Descriptive essay

So far, I met a lot of good teachers in my life. It was hard to pick just one person as my best teacher, finally I chose KimmyungOk as my best teacher because she gave me lessons in manners. When I was elementary school student, I was daring and somewhat rude, so some teachers often scolded me but I usually ignored them and believed that I was right. Then, when I became 13, I met her as my homeroom teacher. She had a fierce look, but I continued to cause troubles.

One day, I made a picture frame during art class with her help. When we finished our works, she made us put the picture frame at the back. There was a friend who is cross-eyed(사시) in our class, and that day one of my friend brought her picture which she took secretly several weeks ago. I received that picture my friend, and I put that picture in frame out of fun and put my frame at the back of the classroom. Some classmates laughed at that picture, but several hours after, I noticed that my picture frame disappeared. Then, teacher called me and I came to stand in front of her. She asked me that who took that picture, I couldn't reply that it was my friend. I kept silent, then she was very upset. She explained that my friend in the picture is cross-eyed and I marked her for life. That time, I didn't know what the cross-eye exactly means and how she suffered from the stress it gives. I just wanted to make my classmates laugh, but I realized that it was really stupid behavior and I cried. My teacher made me sincerely apologize to her and my friend accepted my apology.

From that day on, I tried to be considerate of other peoples' feelings and changed little by little. I can't say that I'm a thoughtful person now, but I'm not a rude anymore thanks to my teacher's teaching. I still think of her teaching whenever I want to make fun of someone out of fun, and I will not able to forget her.

Wonderful teacher

Many people have their favorite teacher in their life. The reason for thinking him(her) as a  their favorite teacher will be various. Maybe the teacher taught them the way of life, career etc. Maybe the teacher scolded them much for right life, so they remember him as a wonderful teacher. Their memory about teacher are very various. But for me, my wonderful teacher gave me a lovely dream when I was very young.

When I was 9 years old, I learned Janggu at Korean classical culb of my elementary school. It was just interesting for me to learn it. My teacher taught us very kindly. Maybe it was difficult to teach children to him. But he was very patient, and usually give us praises. For children, praise is very important, and it affects to them strongly. For me, his compliment was very important. Specially, he said to me "You are good at playing Janggu.". One day, he gave me a book that includes many songs for Janggu. And he said "I give you this book because it makes you play Janggu more well. I think that you are good at it." His compliment gave me a dream for being a Janggu player like Kim Duk Su.

Although I didn't learen Janggu more after he left our school, and I graduate my school, but he was my wonderful teacher. He gave me a beautiful memory about Janggu and gave me a lovely dream. Still, I keep that dream very preciously, and always I thanks to him.

Wonderful teacher, Hong sangchae

I had quiet tough time when I studied for Sooneung in 2008. At that time, I didn't sure about myself and lost self esteem. I failed on June and September test and started doubting myself. However, my homeroom teacher believed me and he always gave me the power to keep going on. Every morning he smiled and encouraged me.

I start my Sooneung study in July of 2008 after finishing my first semester of university. At that time, I was very distracted and not familiar with studying all day long because I was used to being university student. Besides, I failed on my mock test so I was always mad at myself and didn't believe myself. However, my home teacher, Hong Sangchae, always softly said that you can do it and do not give up. At first, I was bit annoyed by him because I thought that he was just saying that words without really think about it. However, every morning when he saw me, he said words of encouragement to me and I started to trust him. Besides, when I was really was under a lot of pressure and wanted to get out of institute, he believed me and let me go out. For this, I was really impressed and be thankful for him because I could feel that he trust me very much. When I felt devastated, he always listen me carefully even when I was crying loudly. His calm and tender voice soothed me. He checked my scheduler every morning and helped me to keep studying. If he were not my homeroom teacher, I would never finish my study for Sooneung.

I believe that even soft and tender voice has its power and can change many things just like it changed me. I will never forget his mild but powerful guide as a teacher. I really want to say thank you to him for believing me and support me consistently.

Wonderful Teacher

Before starting my writing, I would like to ask you a question: what you wanted to become when your childhood? If you are a girl, I am sure that you have dreamt of being a teacher at least for some periods. So did I. As I was the person who kept this dream for long time than any of us, until my high school, more exactly just before getting my SAT result which discouraged me to achieve such my long-lasting dream, the word 'teacher' seems to mean more special to me than others. I met, as others did, many teachers from my kindergarten to my university, by now, and I had different images from each of them. And since I had been dreaming of being teacher, I even tried to observe them very carefully and 'analyze' their attitudes for myself who would be in the future a good teacher. So, now, let me talk about how a wonderful teacher is according to me.

First of all, I think that a wonderful teacher has to be an utterly double-faced person. one face is the one as a good friend for his or her students and the other as a strict teacher itself. It could be slightly changed depending on students' grade, but a teacher usually faces various situations, students with different personality and they need to manage these things differently. For example, one of my teachers in my high school was completely double-faced; he would pin the student's ears back for students' misdeed while he was usually very kind and considerate to us. One day, there was a quite serious argument between two students. The teacher punished them pretty ruthlessly. After their punishment, he called them to let them know what was wrong very kindly. After this event, there was no problem any more in the class and those students never hated him, but on the contrary, they admired more him as a good teacher. It was always same to others. Secondly, it is necessary to keep young to understand students who are in a different generation from yours. It is said that big consideration of students and effort to listen to them, both of them are one of the most necessary to be a good teacher. These are based on understanding about their different attitudes and ways of thinking. Teachers, therefore, need to find reasons which get them in trouble with their disciplines and solve the problem to the students' level of thinking. This fact is proven by a research about best teachers some Korean students had participated in and which was released a couple of years ago; most of them confirmed that a teacher who tries to listen carefully to them and to seem younger as their real age was their best teacher. And, here is another example: several years ago, I came upon a TV program which was saying about most popular teacher of a middle school: according to his school students, we would watch popular TV soap drama series, listen to Korean pop music. And, in the video, the teacher, who was in the mid forties like some parents of his students, was even wearing the school uniform as all students were. For his uniform wearing, students felt closer with him and got to become more open to him. In the class, he did his lesson having been prepared to his students' level, for example, using names of actual popular young stars in order to explain things more easily. In a result, there were some students who had got improved exam grade compared to their previous one.

It is said in Korea that education is our future. That means to give our children good education is to have brighter society in the future since they would do their best to get better my country. This good education is in a part from school, that is, from teachers. They, therefore, do very important roles in society both in the present and in the future. For this reason, teachers need to be conscious of such importance of their career and do their best to teach their students. And, others including students have to have more respect on them. If these two things work well at the same time, each individual and the society will be happy.

Teacher 200903084 CHUNG Kyung Seo

Homeroom teacher, MRS. Jang

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Through elementary school to universities, I met many teachers and I could remember them. Some are good and some are bad. One teacher I really liked. Her name is Jang Hyo Soon.

First time I heard her name, I laughed so hard. Every Korean name ended with 'Soon' makes me laugh. Because in Chinese character, 'soon' means meek and innocence. Unlike her name, she was the toughest teacher in our high school. She was very strict on school's rule. For example, our school does not allow girls having permed. If she found out one of students had perm, she directly goes to hair salon with this girl. Every time she sees some girls who are smoking or permed, she shouts. "Hey you, stop there." I had much fun in teachers' room. I could see lots of freshmen and juniors making some kind of drama with Mrs. Jang.

She has keen eyes yet she is very sweet person. Since we were seniors preparing Sooneung, we got lots of pressure and stress. So by sneaking out school to skip our study after school was our excitement to relieve stress. Even though she knew we were against our school rules, on next day she bought us some chocolates to cheer us. Our class had own policy that not late for school. We ran, ran and ran to our class not to have sweeping floor, but most of time she was late than us. It was really thrilling to be on time. I still remember what time should we be in our class. It was 7:10.

She taught us well and helped us learn other things too. I took Sooneung twice. It was hard for me to take Sooneung twice. I lost my confidence and discouraged. But she called me to regain confidence. She introduced me to her new class. She told them that I am the greatest students in her life. And she told them she was proud of having me in her class. It really touched me. As listen to her introductory, I am glad she was my teacher.
