Have you ever heard of the a simultaneous interpreter? If you are interested in this filed, you may know Choi Jung Hwa, who is the first simultaneous interpreter in Korea. She is considered as the best in language. Through her success story, we could find out what we need to get success in this area.

To become the best interpreter, a person must make a ceaseless efforts in practicing language. She has never been to abroad when she was young. Compared with other students, she had difficulty in intuition of language. I also had also similar feeling like this. It's hard for me to choose which word I use between 'peer' and 'glance' when I use it for 'look'. However a friend of mine who has been abroad knew it naturally. So she made environment as she was in foreign country. To overcome this problem, She woke up in foreign language broadcast, read news in their language. All of her life consisted of language ,which she wanted to conquer, the French. By doing this, she could overcome the time that other students who are born in abroad get naturally. To say a simple word 'mom', baby practiced it more than a thousand times. Interpreter also need to go through this simple truth that applying for baby to get what they want.

The other factor to succeed in language is to prepare more than your capacity. After getting the fluent speaking ability, you have to know what is your translation's subject. Because knowing the translation's story makes the better translation. Interpreter sometimes have to explain the abstruse technicalities like science. If interpreter have knowledge in that field, it could be easy translation for both speaker and audience. Even though Choi Jung Hwa has been the best interpreter ,she made other movie director surprised when she had to interpret works related with movie. She knew all of thing from movie's scenario to extras' name.

In conclusion to get success in language as interpreter, there are two factors. First, practice hard in mastering up language. Second, prepare and know subjects and its background knowledge which you will translate. Those two factor seems common truth, but it's hard for putting in action. Interpreter seems a glamorous job. However, like Graceful swan which had to swim hard under the water , to get that brilliant success also needs lots of efforts

        The Formula of Success

B.C. Forbes once said, "The man who has done his level best…is a success, even though the world may write him down a failure." Personally, I do not appreciate the word success. More often than not, it is associated with fortune, fame, competition, the ability to one-up people around you...all the things that I do not necessarily put high on a pedestal. People in general tend to view end- results as a barometer of success. When they visualize this concept, they often think of high profile figures such as Steven Jobs and Bill Gates and their life altering inventions. Certainly, they are men of success, but this general perception that people have about this word is a bit disturbing and upsetting to me, because I am under the impression that this make lives of ordinary people seem like good-for-nothing, dull, mundane set routine spent mostly wishing to be in the shoes of those big names that make the covers of numerous magazines. Are people leading ordinary lives all failures? Should we classify only those whose name will go down the history as a success? We all know that the answer is a big fat no! My own definition of success is a bit different. In my view, successful people are not only those in the limelight, but also the ones who lead a full-filling life for themselves as well as for others and feel privileged for whatever they have. Having said that, the ingredients in the formula of success is the willingness to do his or her own part in society and better yet for the world and the ability to count blessings in life.

One ingredient in the formula of success is doing one's share of contributing to society. People that I consider to be successful do not center their interest only around themselves. They are not trapped in their own world. Not only do they strive to know themselves, they also make great efforts to learn about those around them. Moreover, they always try to be sensitive to other people's needs, thus certainly not those who are piling more and more food on their plates. They share what they have with the world hoping that their small acts of kindness, care and affection will make a difference in the world someday. Most importantly, they know this will bring them contentment and happiness and make them feel worth  like a million bucks. For a case in point, I am interested in fair trade, so I buy fair trade chocolate and coffee on regular basis. I am fully aware that buying fair trade products can help farmers in the third-world countries lead decent lives, weed out child labor and ensure the right to education for children.

Another ingredient in the formula of success is the positive attitude towards life. People who are in the right direction of a successful life have an eye for discerning privileges among ordinary things that others might take for granted. Some of them may consider going to school, taking classes spending their time in a library absorbing themselves in books to be a privilege. Others probably view having enough money to bring home the bacon as a blessing. Some others may think of having family members and close friends who believe in them and support them through thick and thin as a privilege. Without this kind of positive attitude, there is no way you can fill up the gap inside of us that keeps getting bigger by the minute making your life undesirable even if you drive a SUV and live in a gigantic mansion.

Just like Albert Einstein said, I wish, with all my heart, to become an individual who strive "not  to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value." I believe that making the world a better place to live through small actions such as buying fair trade products on my part and a sense of gratitude towards life will make me a person of value and I call it success. I hope to have the courage and the unwavering determination to become the person  I believe I am meant to be while considering these two ingredients. Twenty or thirty years down the road, it should be me who will classify my life as a success or a failure, certainly not others.

For many people, making a presentation before lots of people is an inevitable task. Specifically, for university students, whether it is a general course, major class, or off campus activity, students should prepare scripts and information about topics that they want to express. It might need tremendous efforts to be completed and thousands times of practicing to make it perfect. To make the presentation successful, there are some factors to keep in mind; being confident and computer skills.

Concerning metal aspect, people who announce should be confident. It is needed to control their mind not way too be nervous and to keep calm. If the presentator shows his nervousness and behave clumsy, it deters audience from listening carefully what the presentator say and hinders the audience trusting the speaker. Be calm and stay on track is a pivotal factor of being succeed a presentation.

As far as practical factors are concerned, computer skills can be a key factor of making presentations succeed. It includes not only finding appropriate information to enhance credibility of the presentation but also making use of computer tools to attract audiences' eyes. In terms of the skill for seeking acceptable sources like audio-visual aids, newspaper articles and so on, it can improve the reliability of the speaker that it helps the listeners to understand his thesis. In addition, computer skills such as power point, photoshop work, etc. would assist people recognize what the speaker tries to say. Two Books that enriched My Soul

Do you have a favorite author whose soul is akin to your own? Finding books that are enchanting and inspiring and speak to you soul can be an exciting journey. Sometimes, you experience moments of epiphany through those books that could lead you to some kind of enlightenment or open up your mind to a whole different world. l feel really ashamed to tell you that I am not an avid reader. Reading is definitely not on my to-do list whenever I have free time. So when pressed to choose my favorite author, it is quite easy to pick one, since I do not have that many. My all-time favorite author is Paulo Coelho. I have read several books of his and, to be quite frank, not liked all of them, but there are two novels that left me thinking about the meaning of life and the world around me. The Alchemist and Veronica decides to die are probably the two most read books of this best- selling novelist, which are also my all time favorites. The two are quite different stories, but I find them to have the same underlining theme.

Every element of the two stories is quite different. On a side note, my English tutor back in high school gave me the book the Alchemist as a farewell gift during our last session, and I bought the latter with my own money when I was a junior in college. The Alchemist is set in Andalusia and the other in Slovenia. The main character of the Alchemist is an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who sets out on a journey in a quest of a treasure hidden in the Pyramids. Whereas Veronika decides to die is a story about a 20something lady who seems to have everything that life could offer, yet fails to find meaning in life and decide to kill herself. The former is about a journey of the boy his home in Spain to North Africa from beginning to end. In contrast, the latter narrates the experiences and events that Veronika encounters in a mental asylum after her failed suicide attempt. Another difference is the length. The Alchemist is 167pages long and VDD is 210 pages long. Lastly, the structure of the two novels is also different. VDD consist of several chapters, whereas the Alchemist is made up of only two parts.

The two books, although quite different in so many aspects, are both life-affirming novels. The way I see it, the theme of the stories are awareness of life. Throughout the stories, the author tries to teach us a life- lesson that each and every one of us has our own path in life that leads to our true self and should be aware of it every minute of our lives. This is what makes our ordinary, mundane life that is made up primarily of dull, set routine, anxieties and conformity reinforced by society worth a try. Living the life of others and trying to get your hands on something that is not there for you, means that you are dead in spirit, if not in body. The minute we realize that we have the most precious jewel in our own hands, within ourselves, we start to develop a genuine passion for living and discovering who we truly are instead of letting days just flow by, wearing a mask of somebody else that we are not.

It is quite fascinating to discover the common theme buried in the two marvelous books that have quite different stories. On the one hand, I really liked the exotic settings of the Alchemist. On the other hand, I also enjoyed reading the vivid descriptions of the inside of the mental hospital in Veronika decides to die  which is what made me enveloped in this novel from cover to cover. As I turned pages of these two amazing, moving and inspiring novels, I found myself slowly transforming into a new person, the one who was waiting within me to shine through me. I welcomed her with a warm smile.

To provide a successful tutoring

No one can deny that tutoring is the most popular and favorite part time job among university students. The earning is pretty high than any other part time jobs and one can get money at the first time. Besides, by teaching student one can also study a lot so it's very beneficial. As tutoring is very popular, it's not only hard to find student but also keep doing it. To keep tutoring then what is needed?

The most important and basic thing is preparation. Some ignores this especially when they teach young students like elementary or middle school students. However, at any moment they can be in real trouble and so was I. When I first started my English private lesson, I thought the textbook is too easy and didn't prepare anything. Though, there was an English word that I saw for the first time in my life. I broke into a cold sweat and my student looked at me strangely. And then she asked me the meaning but I couldn't answer it.

The second one is pretending undaunted. Sometimes student can solve the problem or take word quiz much sooner than I expected. In that case, it's important to not panic. Just act as if you already knew he or she will finish it soon. Then some idea will be come up you're your head and naturally class will be flow. Besides, this could make tutor seems reliable.

Tutoring is not only a lucrative part time job but a very worthwhile job and I have taught four students in recent two years. While I do tutoring, I experienced many difficulties and could make my know-how. I believe that these two are critical in keep maintaining tutoring job.

To have a successful day

Going to bed lately, and waking up lately. And watching TV when I have free time. Is it comfortable? In my case, I'm more tired when I sleep irregularly, and I am very uncomfortable because I think that I wasted time very much. It is important to have a successful day. But how we can do it?

First, we have to arrange what we have to do carefully before going to bed. By doing this, we don't have to extravagate or miss something. Second, to sleep early and get up early is very important. Because we can use more time of day. If we get up late, we can't do all our works. Finally, it is good if you write diary before retiring at night because it makes you look back your day, and develop your life.

And what we have to when we have free time? I think that watching TV, and searching the Internet without purpose are fruitless. It is necessary having time to do that appropriately. And it is better reading book, preparing other works beforehand, and exercising etc. I think that there are many things we have to do although we think that we have free time.

To have a successful day is connected with successful life. With thought of having a day successfully is important, we can do it more better. How wonderful we can go to bed with sense of satisfaction? Only behavior can make better day.

My success

Jitendra Kumar Gupta (#201081613) Page -145 (Wed 7-8)

When I passed 10th grade, my parents had different aspiration about my future. My mother wanted me to be an Engineer and my father wanted me to be a Doctor. So, I selected Mathematics for my mother and Biology for my father. I passed 12th grade and applied for engineering and medical entrance exam but I did not get what I wanted. Actually, I wanted to be a student of a renowned university. So, I changed my mind and applied for language courses in one of best university in India. I was selected in Korean Language Department and I did well there. Now, I am in South Korea as an exchange student. This is my success on which I feel proud all the time.

I became a part of Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2007.Before that my father had different attitude towards me. My father told me that you will do nothing in life and so I am not in a position to help you with money. He told that you have two options. Choose one of these. Either take care of your family business or get out my house for ever. I selected 2nd option. Because I felt that I can't do well in farming. Instead, I will do better in the field of education. So, I got out of my house and started tutoring Science, Maths, English and Sanskrit in other city. I started earning money for my livelihood and study. With this small amount of money, I started marching towards my new life and goal. In the mean time, I was selected in JNU. Thereafter, my father called me when he came to new about this news. At that time it was my turn, I said to my father, if you are going to help me now, only then I will be a part of your family. Otherwise, I can't be part of your for whole help. He promised me that he will help me anytime. Then, I shifted to Jawaharlal University and finally, I graduated this year from this university.

After completing my graduation, I applied for HUFS and PUFS. As a result, I was selected in both the university. In the PUFS, I was selected for six months and in HUFS, I was selected for one year. Moreover, I have been given govt. scholarship in PUFS and University scholarship in HUFS. But I preferred HUFS for two reasons. Firstly, HUFS provides scholarship for one year and secondly, it is in Seoul. As if now, I am in HUFS. In addition to that my parents feel proud whenever they think about me.

What I got from my life is that our society is result oriented. If someone is not doing well in his/her study or business, s/he is not getting respect only in society but in family too. Before getting busy in university life, I came to know all the worldly knowledge and I decided to act in accordance with that. As if now, I am happy with my decision and success that I got till date.

Most Little and Easiest Ways to Exit of Obesity

What kind of advertisement can you see most these days? Clothing? Food? Getting the abundance of food since the Industrial Revolution and remarkable changes in human beings daily society, we are struggling with fat. So, the answer to the question in my point of view is diet. According to the result of a statistic research released by Korea National Statistics Center in 2008, over 2 trillion won is spent in the diet market, by which Korean people want to be helped lose their weight or keep in a good shape. In addition, the obesity in Korea is getting sharply serious at an anxious extent that almost one of six Koreans is obese. Despite such big passion to losing weight, most of those people get several times of failure of and they finally turn skeptical about their goal. Observing them and even having these experiences, I realized that we miss the most basic principles of diet: eat less, move more.

As I mentioned above, the first principle for losing weight is to eat less. As I said in the beginning of my writing, we, since there was the great revolution of machinery which allowed us to have big productivity of all food ingredients, we are able to get more foods more easily at a cheaper price than people did in the past. Therefore, we are completely far from the notion of famine-I am talking about the situation in most developed countries today- and we meet not only our desire of eating but abundance of food as well. In a conclusion, it makes people suffering of obesity in our century. This point is well presented by an amount of studies offered since 1960 which is considered the beginning of this big problem, one of the most important ones.

Secondly, what is most important in order to lose weight is to move more. To explain phenomena in our actual society related to this problem, I have to mention again the industrial revolution: compared to the amount of food ingestion, people move much less, that is, cannot consume our energy enough to keep a proper weight or shape. That is the most fundamental reason of getting obese. These days, we dont need to move as much as people did in the past because of a number of machines which replace our basic roles; for example, washing machine, dish washer, cleaner, and so on. In addition, cars, elevators which deprive us of minimum chance to move and consume our surplus energy having been gotten by eating not only high-energy foods but also a large amount of foods. This lack of physical movement causes such big concern, obesity.

These two facts are the ones we easily miss because they are very basic and at the same time little to recognize in our daily life. Just keep in mind these two and youll be able to see yourself in a good or at least proper shape through mirror. Sometimes, we need to be far from taking advantages or comfort offered by our modern society, especially for escaping from obesity

To Have a Successful Diet

"Do you want to have a slim body?" is the key advertisement phrase that made people buy a running machine through home shopping. Why did this phrase made people go over the telephone and order that running machine? It's probably because we are living in a world where a nice slim appearance is important which make people go on a constant diet. Especially women go on a diet due to the society's pressure or the media's effect on a nice slim body that a woman who's living in Korea's society should put their effort in order to obtain. Then, is there a way to have a successful diet that could give oneself a nice slim body?

There is no right and certain way to loose weight than doing continual exercise. Even though there are medical treatments, pills that helps oneself loose weight, and even surgeries to loose fat, doing exercise almost everyday is the most certain and healthy way to loose weight. It is recommended by health experts to exercise, at least walk a hour a day in order to keep in shape. To loose weight and to gain a slim body, it is recommended to do exercise more than a hour since fat inside our body starts to burn after 20 minutes of exercise. On the type of exercise to loose weight, almost every kind of exercise is suitable. It is important to find the type of exercise one can do continuously, since doing exercise for a period of time is important. If one does an exercise and give up quickly, it is worse than not doing an exercise because the weight can increase suddenly due to the side effect.

To loose more weight and gain a more perfect slim body, it is necessary to have a planned meal on top of a regular exercise. If one who does exercise everyday but eat more than usual will gain more weight than loosing it. Therefore, having a planned meal, a low-calorie or a low-fat based meal is important to loose extra weight. We can easily see books about diet meal in the bookstores which can guide us in planning a diet meal for a period of time. Normally reducing fat, for instance, eating natural foods and avoiding fast food, sugar and salty food will help one who's on diet loose weight more effectively. Therefore, it would be a good idea to clean the refrigerator or shelves in the kitchen and throw off all the junk and fat saturated food in order to have a successful diet.

It is hard to loose weight and gain a slim body that most of us all dream of. It takes a lot of effort to loose extra weight and achieve a successful diet. Doing regular exercise and eating healthy meal plans not only help us loose weight but also make us one step closer to have a more healthier life. Therefore, it would be a good habit to keep in shape and gain a healthier life style by exercising regularly and eating natural food.

What makes successful people successful? When it comes to different success in our lives, there are certain abilities and traits we need to acquire in order to reach our  ultimate goals. Someone like Bill Gates who achieved both fame and financial success might have had intellectually gifted mind, tenacious spirits in what he wanted to achieve, and a strong passion of his work and Oprah Winfrey's grateful attitude and powerful thoughts might have contributed to her success as a talk show host. However, instead of talking about globally well known successful people, I would like to use Steve Irwin, a wildlife expert, as my role model in order to write about attributes to some type of success.

In order to be a successful wildlife expert, a person must be very enthusiastic of his/her work. Ever since I was 11 years old, I watched Animal Planet and the show I enjoyed the most was that of Steve. I would talk about how I was going to be just like him when I grow up. In particular, I found that his enthusiasm for animals made learning about the wild so much more exciting for me. Moreover, he was very much into his work that, he treated animals like they were his friends. He was a true risk taker. For instance, he would lift deadly snakes gently without aiming for their head and wrestle with crocodiles as if they were his wrestling friends. Since, his job was discovering animals and making diverse documentaries of them, his enthusiasm always brought colors and characters into his work.

Secondly, a person needs to be a passionate and energetic person to become a successful wildlife expert. Besides, his strong dedication to his hard work, he brought energy and passion to everything he did. Whether it was performing a groundbreaking crocodile research, filming wildlife documentaries or simply celebrating his children's birthdays, Steve Irwen gave 100 percent with everything he did. Also, he did not choose his career for the opportunity to make lots of cash and live a luxurious and spoiled life. If he ever made money with what he loved, he would spend it back on what he loved. For instance, he has spent millions of dollars buying up lands around Australia and the world to protect animals.

I always look up to him whenever I wonder about the causes to become a successful person. Although he passed away while doing what he loved, his enthusiasm for his work and drive toward which he believed in the most, will always motivate me to try harder. I am grateful that he continued to show me what a real success is about. I also want to become a person who could be remembered for its passion and enthusiasm.

                                The Formula of Success

Another ingredient in the formula of success is the positive attitude towards life. People who are in the right direction of a successful life have an eye for discerning privileges among ordinary things that others might take for granted. Some of them may consider going to school, taking classes spending their time in a library absorbing themselves in books to be a privilege. Others probably view having enough money to bring home the bacon as a blessing. Some others may think of having family members and close friends who believe in them and support them through thick and thin as a privilege. To Have a Dream Bag

Most women interest in make-up, clothes and bags. Many of my friends spend their allowance buying cosmetic products. Since I don't wear make-up, I turn my eyes into shoes and bags. Instead buying small cosmetic items, I always want to have a bag, "The bag". However, the bag costs me a lot. Its brand is so popular and expensive for me to get. So I made a plan to get my dream bag. What I did was getting a part time job and comparing costs and designs.

I have a strange habit. When I take a bus or subway, I look around and take a keen look at people. It's like some kind of research. I watch many peoples' looks. In Korea, it is easy to catch a trend. Because many people are sensitive to fashion and it reflected them to have similar looks. I watched carefully to students or ladies who are older than me. I compared those bags that they have and imagine what is best for me. Then I came up with a few bags in my shopping list. I went to department store and checked a price. As I thought, the cost was huge. And some bags were out of order. I had to wait and accumulate the money.

In order to have my dream bag, I needed to get money. First, I asked my mom to buy me as an early birthday gift. She immediately said 'no'. Finally I got a part time job. For a month, I worked as a teaching assistance in English camp held at Chung Shim International Academic School. I was thrilled by teaching third grader students. They were noisy and messy, yet they had a full of passion in studying English. Not only I had a good experience to share my knowledge with these children, but also I was able to save money.

I still cannot forget the day I bought my bag. Some might say it is too expensive and luxurious for college student to buy, but I argue that it's the bag that I dreamed of and I worked hard to achieve. Rather than spent money on cosmetics, I choose to have a bag. To get what I want, I inquired of bags. I contemplated long enough to have a right choice. Then, I started to save money. A part time job helped me to raise money. It wasn't easy at the first time, but now I know how to save money and achieve at something.

My Two Favorite Books: Norwegian Woods and Ancient Futures

As many of us do, I spend or at least try to spend as much time as possible reading because as it is usually said, through books I get a lot of things related to different fields and it enriches me emotionally. By now I read many books and I have several books I liked of which there are two that I like most recently: Norwegian Woods and Ancient Futures. Let me talk about these two books.

They have more differences than similarities. For example, Norwegian Woods is a fiction while Ancient Futures is a non fiction, more specifically an essay. On the one hand, the former is around 440-page book. On the other hand, the latter is approximately 220-page, that is, the first one is much thicker than the second one. Third difference is authors nationality. Norwegian Woods is written by a Japanese author named Haruki Murakami. However, the Ancient Futures are by Norwegian writer, Helena Norberg Hordge. Lastly, the first one is more emotional than the second one which is rather narrative and descriptive about social phenomena and the unique culture of Ladakh.

Despite these several differences, these two books have some similarities which are interesting to me. All of the two books are first-person writings. This makes me approaching closely to each situation. Even if there is different extent between the two, they are both quite emotional writings. Since Norwegian Woods is a fiction and a story about twentieth young people around several love stories, it is undoubtedly very emotional. Similarly, the other one, Ancient Futures written by a sociologist, is quite emotional and subjective according to the authors different perspectives on certain things.

Both have their own unique characteristics which make each more special, distinguished by one another. At the same time, for these similarities, I can say without any hesitation that those two are my favorite books and I could strongly recommend people to read.

                                   Paris and New York

There is not an adventurous nor a travelling bone in my body, but I consider myself to be lucky to have visited two world-renown cities; Paris and New York. It is a big shame that I only got to stay in these cities for a couple of days, but I really enjoyed every moment in these two places.  After these rather short voyages, I got the impression that Paris and New York do share a few similarities that are widely known and yet, the differences of the two places are night and day.

As we all know, Paris and New York have many things in common. First, they are fashion capitals of the world. Many designer shops are concentrated in these cities. It is a big shame to tell you that I spent a big chunk of my trips window-shopping in both cities, wishing to have enough money to buy fancy designer bags and shoes displayed in the shop windows.  Second, both have iconic monuments; the Eiffel tower in Paris attracts scores of tourists around the world all year around, and so does the Statute of Liberty in New York Harbor. Vive la tour Eiffel! It was far from an eyesore. It was rather a true beauty to behold! I went to see it in the evening during the Christmas season and I was so lucky to see the Eiffel tower lighting ceremony which lasted only for a short period of time. It was a truly magical moment. Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to visit the Statue of Liberty, so I do not have any interesting stories to share regarding the landmark of New York city.  Last but not least, they are both densely populated metropolitan areas that have huge influence on the world in terms of politics, art, media, entertainment and so on.

In spite of the similarities that I have described above, the two cities are quite different in many aspects. One of the most striking differences is the characters and styles of the buildings. When I went to New York, back in high school with my cousin who lives in New Jersey, I was mesmerized by sleek modern skyscrapers over my head. In contrast, you can hardly see tall buildings in Paris. Paris boasts buildings from the Medieval Period, the Renaisssance, Neo classicism to contemporary buildings. This is the place where the old and new co-exist. As you walk by on the streets in Paris, you see numerous century-old buildings that look like something straight out of your history book.  The insides of these buildings were renovated while preserving the traditional looking exterior and this is what makes the city so beautiful. Another difference is people's attitude. During my short stay in Paris, I felt that Parisiens have the attitude that is typical of people living in the old continent. It  does differ from individual to individual , but in general they were less friendly than those living in New York. I went to Paris during the Winter vacation last year, and there were not many Asians in the city. I could hardly see smiles on people's faces and most of their faces were stoic , which made me a bit reluctant to ask for directions at first. I am not sure why I felt this way, but I could sense a imperialistic pride in people inhabiting Paris that I found to be a bit off-putting. However, as strange as it may sound, I did not feel one bit foreign in New York. I found people in New York to be more approachable and less standoffish. Maybe, it was there were a lot more Asians Americans that I felt more comfortable in New York than in Paris.

It is quite foolish to generalize about the two cities after such short trips, but I think I got the broad picture of what these places are like. I like the modern chic ambiance of New York city, but it certainly lacks depth in terms of history. I love the old world buildings and a host of historic monuments and museums in Paris which boast its rich culture and history. However, Paris has too much pride. My only wish is to have enough time and money to fly back to Paris and New York once again to fully immerse myself in two quite different, yet a tad similar cultures that they have to offer.

Two Books that enriched My Soul

Do you have a favorite author whose soul is akin to yours? Finding books that are enchanting and inspiring and speak to you soul can be an exciting journey or better yet an epiphany that could lead you to some kind of enlightenment or open up your mind to a whole different world. l feel really ashamed to tell you that I am not an avid reader.

On a side note, my English tutor back in high school gave me the book the Alchemist as a farewell gift during our last session and I bought the letter with my own money when I was a junior in college. The Alchemist is set in Andalusia and the other in Slovenia. The main character of this novel is an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who sets out on a journey in a quest of a treasure hidden in the Pyramids. Whereas Veronika decides to die is a story about a 20something lady who seems to have everything that life could offer, yet fails to find meaning in life and decide to kill herself. The former is though and through about a journey of the boy from his home in Spain to North Africa. In contrast, the latter narrates the experiences and events that Veronika encounters in a mental asylum after her failed suicide attempt.

As I turned pages of these two amazing, moving and inspiring novels, I found myself slowing transforming into a new person, the one who was waiting within me to shine through me. I welcomed her with a warm smile.

People have been living with pets and pets became a family member. Many of us can't live without our lovely pets. Among various kinds of pets, cat and dog are the most popular pets. They have a lot of similarities in appearance, but they are very different in their characters.

Both cat and dog are mammals, so they have a lot in common in appearance. they have four legs, tail, and soft fur. Cat and dog are omnivorous, so they eat just about any type of food. They take kindly to people. Because of these reasons, cat and dog became most popular pets living in harmony with human beings.

Unlike these similarities, they are very different in characters. Dogs like water, and they are great swimmers. In contrast, cats are afraid of water, so they don't like washing. Dogs are very loyal to their masters and they have hard time accepting new masters, but cats accept new masters in just a week. Owner of dogs should comb their pets because dogs don't brush themselves. Unless dogs, cats comb themselves by licking their fur. Dogs feel lonely easily, but cats don't feel lonely as they prefer independent life.

Cat and dog seem similar, but they have many differences in reality. Because of their different attractiveness, both of them could become the most popular pets.

Two different pets

Since ancient times, people had shown their interest in some animals for their own benefits. However, this interest has been not declined so far, and is being carried on till date in different forms and usages. The two most popular pet animals which are centre of attraction even today are "dog and cat".

Dog acts as a guard, children's playmate and walking companions. So, dog has earned the nickname man's best companion. Dog gives emotional support to the owner, and considered as very loyal animal. In addition to that dogs has high hearing power which means they can detect the sound beyond the man's reach and is able to locate the exact the position. Furthermore, dogs have strong smelling power, and is able differentiate different odors. Similar is the case with cat, cat is also known as the "domestic cat or house cat". Cat also gives emotional support to the owner like a dog does. Cats have excellent night vision and can see near darkness to locate prey. Moreover, cats also have acute hearing power like a dog. Furthermore, cat is more sociable animal.

Despite their similarities, dog and cat are from two different species. Dog belongs to the canine family. On the other hand, cat belongs to feline family. Again, dog is a pack animal whereas cat is a loner. Furthermore, dog need to be cared for whereas cats are independent animals. Dogs are more affectionate when compared to cats. A dog scares away intruders, whereas a cat will just run for cover. Dog needs a lot of spaces and they love to run about. On the contrary, cats are very happy in small spaces.

It is interesting to see how two different animals can be similar and different at the same time. Dog and cat are very different in appearance and behavior, but they are also similar because they are pet animals with whom people behave like a friend.

Metamorphosis and Bible

There are two very famous books named Metamorphosis and the Bible. Metamorphosis is the book written by Ovid, a poet who lived in roman times. Metamorphosis means the story of change and actually this book is mainly filled with changing stories. The bible is a scared book in Christianity and also the most well known book in the world. Both books are very similar in some points and also very different in other points.

Both books cover a subject of God and give answers such as "Who create the world?" and "Where did the men came from?" Besides, some main story lines are very similar. For example, the story of Lycaon and Noah's ark has many similarities. People in both stories were corrupted and God decided to punish them. And as a result, the world was destroyed but only a few people survived and restart the human history.

However, both not only have similarities but also have many differences. Although two books have similar story lines, the writing style is totally different. Ovid wrote very precisely. He gave many details unlike Bible. In the story of Lycaon that I mentioned above, he conveyed very detailed descriptions such as a gruesome scene of world and the way Gods wreck the world. Whereas, the Bible depicts in very ambiguous way so the thing we can see is very confined.

Even though both have its distinctive feature and are regarded very differently, they all have important value and similarities in it.

A film and a play

A film and a play have something in common and differences. I like two very much. These characteristics attract many spectators. And still these are famous. Maybe it will be more attractive by comparing and contrasting them.

They are composite art, and have story. Without story, it is hard to say 'film or play'. And they choose 'act' for express their story. So there are many actors. Film and play are not made by oneself. They are group work. Like film has scenario, play has script. And it is common that they are arts based on tempo.

However, whenever we see film, it isn't change because it is recorded. But play can be changed because it is influenced by situation. Unlike film meets spectators by screen, play meets spectators directly. And film can express time and place without limits, but it is difficult to express those things in play.

Maybe both have strength and weakness. And I think that they can survive because of this. If one of two can satisfy strengths of both, the other could be disappear. I can say that a film and a play have so many things interesting.

The 'Harry Potter' and the 'Lord of the Rings'

When I was young, I was hooked up to a imagination that there could be an another world that we don't acknowledge of. Therefore, for me, it was so fascinating when the novel 'Harry Potter' series appeared on the bookstore. Similar with 'Harry Potter' series but different, 'Lord of the Rings' is also one of the novels that I've read with enthusiasm. These two are quite similar but also has its one characteristic which makes it a very interesting subject to compare and contrast.

'Harry Potter' series, in total seven of it, is a continuing story which the characters inside the book go for an adventure. 'Lord of the Rings' is also a novel which has a story that continues as it goes on, also characters inside the book going for an adventure and fight with the evil side. They are also similar that the subject inside each book is based on the writer's imagination, a fantasy. The 'Harry Potter' series talks about witches and wizards world, whereas in the 'Lord of the Rings', it talks about elves, wizards, humans and so on. The structure of the story is similar also. For instance, in the 'Harry Potter' novel there is a main character and two friends and others who help the main character 'Harry' go through an impossible mission. Similar with this, in the novel 'Lord of the Rings', there is a main character 'Prodo' and his friends and others who also help him establish an impossible mission.

The 'Harry Potter' story is about a witches and wizard's world that exists next to the human's, except that we, normal humans don't acknowledge of the other world. However, in the 'Lord of the Rings' there is a world for each species, for example, for the human, for the elves and so one that coexist together. Moreover, in the 'Harry Potter' story, the story continues as the characters inside the book grows. As they grow up the story changes also. In the 'Lord of the Rings' however, the characters doesn't grow old but the story just continues as a one big adventure. On the aspect of fighting the evil side, in the 'Harry Potter' novel, 'Harry' is the one who actually fights the evil, even though the character gets help from many people. However in the 'Lord of the Rings', the main character who has the destiny to destroy the ring in order to distinguish the evil, can't be seen as actually fighting the evil. The character gets distracted by other creature very often, and in the end, that creature fortunately get rid of the ring.

The 'Harry Potter' and the 'Lord of the Rings' are both very popular novel that is read by many people, and also watched by a lot of people through movies. Both fun and interesting to read, they are still read by a lot of people these days also. They are both very enthusiastic books which lead the readers into a fantasy world and let go of the stress they get from the real world.

The Biggest Holidays

200903084

CHUNG Kyung Seo

It is my enjoyment to check calendar for holidays. But it seems like there are not many holidays that used to be such as Constitution Day. Major holidays in Korea are Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. We celebrate these holidays for different reasons yet they are bringing a family together. They have some commons and differences.

Nowadays, family doesn't frequently meet each other. They usually meet at the biggest holidays, especially Thanksgiving and New Year. On these holidays, we see family members and enjoy our time with them. These holidays gather people around and give us a bond. For example, we prepare our meals together. On New Year, we make dumpling. We make songpyeon, half moon shaped rice cake, on Thanksgiving. While we frame these, we chat a lot and discuss recent news. Not only that we have a memorial service in both holidays.

Despite their similarities, these holidays are distinctive. Season in these holidays is different. New Year is around winter, whereas Thanksgiving is on autumn. On New Year, we celebrate for our health, and coming year. In contrast, we thank our ancestor brought our food and nature. New Year is more special for kids. Parents, relatives, and grandparents give some money to their children and grandchildren for luck and wish them to be well on health and school work. Some members might give some allowances to children on Thanksgiving, but New Year is more customary to get money from family.

These holidays are waiting list on my schedule. I always welcome when these days are around. New Year and Thanksgiving are the biggest holidays. Unlike other holidays, they are gathering family. We bond together and have a great time. We cook certain dishes with lousy chat. But kids like New Year more than Thanksgiving. Kids get some money from their family members. For me, I like both of them. I like the fact that they make us to share a time with each other.
