My interest in English and the U.S. cultures started when I studied at Junior High school for two years in two different states, Massachusetts and Alabama in the U.S. Yet, these two distinctive states have some commons. Personally, it was the most valuable and wonderful experience in my life.

I lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts a year and I spent a year in Auburn, Alabama. Because of the location, these cities are different in somehow. The weather in Cambridge is much like Seoul, South Korea. It has distinct four seasons. It snows a lot. I and my friends used to go outside to ride a sleigh. But when I moved to Auburn, I didn't bring a sleigh. It rarely snows. The weather is smoother and warmer in the South. So I didn't need to worry about getting a cold. I truly understand meaning of 'melting pot' in Cambridge. There were many people around from other countries. It was no surprise at all when I saw other Koreans. In contrast, Auburn wasn't really a melting pot. In fact, it was a small city. Our school had only five Asians. Cambridge, a historical city surrounded by many old buildings, is similar to Auburn. Both cities are compacted with schools. Cambridge is famous for having two schools: Harvard University and M.I.T. Auburn University is located in Auburn as well. Thereby, I was exposed to academic surrounding. Both school works encouraged me a lot. I had a chance to get a drawing lesson from school and was nurtured by the guidance of my art teacher, Ms. Besty Logan in Auburn.

I am so grateful that I had various cultural experiences by living in two different places, New England state as well as the Southern state, which also nurture me to build up my dreams.

I am so grateful that I had various cultural experiences by living in two different places, New England state as well as the Southern state, which are completely different areas yet have some similarities. So it was much easier for me when I moved to Auburn.
