201000269 Kim Kyung Un

The other day, i was watching a video clip of an artist Chris Jordan who talked about how western culture looks like. He uniquely presented different artworks of gigantic pictures rather than using typical boring statistics. For example, he showed a huge picture of four million plastic cups used by the american airline flights every day. What shocked me was that all these cups added together were taller than the height of the Statue of Liberty.
After watching these horrifying pictures, suddenly it hit me that culture is not just something that has been created by us deliberately, but something that has been created from our daily awareness. Thus, I realized that all the unconscious behaviors we do in our daily lives  are attributing to catastrophical phenomenons like global warming, addiction, death, obsession etc. Everyday, I also engage in different behaviors unconciously, such as throwing trash on the floor when I am too lazy to reach over all the way to the trash bin and getting mad towards someone when I am not in a great mood. Just like what Chris Jordan says, the cultrual joy is dissapearing in our society and we are forgetting the real feeling of our culture.
When these problems has become out of control it seems almost impossible to change. However, I believe that these things can be changed when each individuals start to educate each other and wake people up from ignorance by trying to build new different views towards the world. By taking responsibility and considering the quality of life, I belive that our culture can be changed and we can together create a better world.

  1. To Kim Kyung Un From Noh Young Sun Assignment 1

    1. What I like about this piece of writing is that it is very informative and insightful.

    2. Your main point seems to be that our actions and choices we make shape our own culture and we have power to bring about change and a positive impact on the world.

    3. I like this line" However, I believe that these thing can be changed when each individuals start to educate each other and wake people up from ignorance by trying to build new different views towards the world", becuase it teaches us a valuable lesson; we have to educate ourselves to see the world in a different light and make it a better place to live.

    4. This line" Just like what Chris Jordan says, the cultural joy is dissapearing in our society and we are forgetting the real feeling of our culture." is not clear to me. I think you'd better explain what the cultural joy that Chris Jordan mentioned in the video clip means.

    5. As I read through your essay, I got curious as to who Chris Jordan is. Maybe you could add a little bit of background information about Chris Jordan in the introduction part to make your essay even more intriguing to the readers.
