It is obvious that I am new to South Korea and I need friends but I think it's a bit difficult task. This is because I am somewhat different from other guys in terms of skin color. People usually differentiate here from others on the basis of skin color. I think this is a case of racial discrimination which lost its impact in contemporary modern world but it still exists in South Korea.
However, people should be judged by their wisdom and knowledge which they have. Look at Barack Obama, he is black in color but then people from all over the world respect him. What's the reason? The reason behind this is that he is master in his field. There are other examples too. For instance, think about Nelson Mandela. He received Noble Prize for peace in 1993 and is well known in the world.
Moreover, skin color is regulated primarily by the amount and type of "melanin hormone". Melanin hormone is of two types: Pheomelanin (red) and Eumelanin (very dark).Light skinned people have pheomelanin and dark skinned people have eumelanin. In addition to that Skin colors also depend on "the climatic condition of the specific area". People who live nearby equator are exposed to direct sunlight and direct sunlight has UV rays. These UV rays in turn help in excessive secretion of eumelanin hormone and hence people living nearby equator are black in color. On the other hand, people living away from equator secret pheomelanin hormone. This is because they live in cold regions and hence their skin is red in color. Therefore, we should respect everyone irrespective of their caste, creed, language, religion, skin color etc. I hope that day is not far when I will have lots of friend.

ReplyDelete1. I find your writing to be really interesting and a bit disturbing too, since it sheds new light on racisim in Korea.
2 Your main point seems to be that people should not be discriminated against based on their skin color.
3. I like this line "Therefore, we should respect everyone irrespective of their caste, creed, language, religion, skin color etc" because this line sums up what you are trying to say through this essay in a clear, succint way.
4. The first paragraph as a whole is not clear to me. I think you should recount your personal experiences in detail to support your main argument.(Did Koreans really mistreat you just because of your skin color? It is one possibility that people whom you met in the past are just not really nice and a bit standoffish to you just because it was part of their temperament, you know.)
5. I think your essay could have resonated with the readers in a more powerful and convincing way if you had included your personal experiences in your essay.. Plus, it could be interesting to compare South Korea and India in terms of racial discrimination.
