I used to go grandmother's home in Busan. Every time I go, my grandmother took me to the market. Busan has many markets. They all have names; Jagalchi Market, Kkang-Tong Market (can in English), Cho-Rang Market and so on. One of my favorite markets is Kkang-Tong. It has so many different things such as clothes, fishes, shells, and snacks, cans and the other. Although my stomach is full, I beg my grandmother to buy me a fishcake (Omuk).
Tteok-bok-ki, rice cakes in hot sauce has a friend, which is Omuk. They are in harmony yet no fishcake can beat Busan fishcake. I don't know Busan one has different ingredients, but it tastes better. In a narrow path, there is small cottage filled with sticks. A grandmother is busy and small but she is sweet lady refilling people's soup. There are mixes of vegetables, chili, squid, and muk(Korean type of jelly). I pick up chili. It has slices of chili in fishcake. Small green dots always make me spicy. But I could not help myself to eat another one. I have some fishcakes dipped in soy sauce. After that I drink the special soup with a drop of black sauce. Smoke from soup hides my eyesight for a while. Not only fishcake, there is one special, a stick of rounded rice cake. This white rounded sticky bar can be seen only in Busan. It is very popular among kids. I have to compete with little kids to get one.
I enjoy every minute of eating fishcakes, especially at Kkang-Tong market. Not just taste, it has memory of my childhood. My grandmother held my hands not to lose in huge and complicated place. If she thinks I am tired, she brought me an Omuck to cheer me up. Because of this past time, I like Busan omuk.
