Although we have different kinds of media but electronic media has its on impact on people's live and hence, its impact can not be ignored even in children. It attracts not only adults but also children. It is obvious that everything has merits and demerits, and so is the case with TV. So, TV's impact depends on the user attitude. How much impact TV has on children depends on many factors; how much they watch, their age and personality, whether they watch alone or with adults, and whether their parents talk with them about what they watch on TV.
TV is one of the prevalent media which influences children's lives to great extent. Children spend much of their free time on watching TV. It seems that they are in constant touch with the screen. However, continuous contact is thought to influence the way they understand and differentiate both TV and the world in which they live. Although children have everyday contact with other media but visual media alone are considered most effective and speak a "universal language," which is accessible regardless of age and sex. Moreover, TV contains vary in forms and content. The effect of television watching depends on program content and genre. In addition to that TV provides children a very important way to learn knowledge and get to know the world which they may never see even in the later phase of their life. For example, the ocean exploring program on "discovery channel" can show children how ocean looks from inside and upside. Beside this, TV is also a good tool to entertain children and helps in gathering information.
It is obvious that TV has good impacts on children but it has bad impact at the same time if it is not watched in controlled way. Moreover, anything can spoil a child if he/she will be not given due care in the early phase of their life as their brain is fresh and can be mold in any shape. In my personal view, watching TV sometimes enhance IQ level of the children. However, parents should concentrate on positive side not on the negative side as even a coin has head and tail.
